What is it: The PsySquatch Tree Camo Waffle Long Sleeve is a 260 GSM waffle knit in a 65% cotton and 35% polyester blend, printed edge to edge in a snow tree camo that the PsySquatch walks out of. Oversized body, drop shoulder, ribbed crew collar, straight hem, with the Phantasmagorical drop mark on the chest. One colorway, sizes S to 2XL.
What is the PsySquatch design about?
This is the all over print in the line, so the artwork is not a panel on the back, it is the garment. The ground is a winter tree camo drawn in pen and ink: bare branches, broad fallen leaves, pine needles and birch bark in white, bone and charcoal, running unbroken across the body, the sleeves and the shoulders. Out of that field, across the back, a sasquatch resolves in profile mid stride with its head turned back over its shoulder, a third eye open in green on its forehead. A Flower of Life mandala is ghosted into the branches behind it in single weight line. Teal filaments of mycelium run out of its back and down its arm, and mushrooms come up through rust orange roots where it steps.
Camouflage is the right form for this one. Read fast, it is a winter forest. Stand still with it and the forest turns out to have been a figure the whole time. Original artwork, exclusive to Phantasmagorical.
The front carries the Phantasmagorical drop mark on the chest, small, in a cyan to orange gradient, sitting on top of the camo.
What 260 GSM means in a waffle knit
Most thermal and waffle long sleeves sold at retail sit around 180 to 220 GSM and go thin at the elbow inside a season. This one is 260 GSM, which is 7.7 oz per square yard. The waffle structure is the point of the weight: a waffle knit is a grid of raised cells that traps air against the skin, and it only works if there is enough yarn in the fabric to hold the cell open. At 260 GSM the texture stands up rather than flattening out, so it insulates on its own and still layers under a hoodie without bulking up.
The blend is 65% cotton and 35% polyester. Cotton gives it the hand and takes the print. The polyester share is what keeps a waffle from stretching out at the cuffs and hem, which is the usual way these die.
The all over print and the drop shoulder
The camo is printed across the cut panels, so the pattern continues over the seams and the placement lands slightly differently on every piece. Nothing about it repeats in an obvious tile. Up close you can see the waffle texture through the ink, which is what keeps it reading as a garment rather than a poster.
The body is cut oversized with a drop shoulder, so the sleeve seam sits down the arm and the print runs across the shoulder without a break at the joint. Ribbed collar and cuffs, straight hem, long enough to wear out over the waist.
