Here is what GSM actually measures in a sweatpant, why our fabric runs 400 to 420 GSM instead of the usual 180 to 220, and a real construction comparison across the six cuts we currently sell, from a tapered jogger to a wide baggy leg to a curved barrel silhouette.
What "Heavyweight" Means in a Sweatpant
GSM stands for grams per square meter, the weight of the fabric itself, not the finished garment. We cover the concept in full in our GSM explainer, but the short version for sweatpants: most joggers on the market run 180 to 220 GSM. That is thin enough to pill after a handful of washes and let prints crack by month two. Our sweatpants run 400 to 420 GSM instead, close to double. You feel it the moment you pick a pair up. It sits closer to a premium blanket in hand weight than a typical gym pant, without going stiff or board like.
The tradeoff of a heavier cotton knit is that it holds a garment wash properly. Thin fabric takes a snow wash or mineral wash unevenly and looks flat. At 400 plus GSM, the wash sits in the fabric with real texture, and the piece is built to soften and improve with wear rather than break down.
Three Constructions, One Fabric Family
All six pairs below are 100% cotton at 400 to 420 GSM, but the leg construction is not interchangeable. We currently cut three distinct silhouettes:
- Tapered jogger. Relaxed through the thigh, narrows to an elastic ankle cuff. The classic jogger shape and our most common cut. Runs about one size small, so we recommend sizing up.
- Baggy, straight leg. Wider through the whole leg with no taper, built to sit over the top of a shoe for a stacked look. Needs a bigger size jump, about two sizes up from normal.
- Barrel leg. Widens through the thigh, curves back in below the knee, and finishes open with no cuff at all. The newest construction in the lineup and the most tailored looking of the three despite carrying the most volume. Needs about one size up.
None of this is size chart trivia. A tapered jogger and a barrel leg in the same nominal size will drape completely differently, and the outseam alone can run two to three inches apart between styles. Check the specific product's size chart rather than assuming your usual number carries over between cuts.

Existential Joggers. The tapered jogger in its most straightforward form: 420 GSM snow washed cotton, elastic cuff at the ankle, a sacred geometry graphic screen printed to hold up over years of washing rather than crack. Founder Russell is 6'2", 180 lbs, wears L in most of our tees, and sizes up to XL here, which is the general rule across the tapered jogger group.
Paradigm Joggers. Same 420 GSM tapered construction, different artwork: an Escher style interlocking geometric form on the right thigh with a small flame mark on the left leg. Clean and minimal next to the more maximalist prints in the lineup, still built on the identical fabric and cuff.
Inner Alchemy Joggers. The same tapered 420 GSM base carrying a caduceus style emblem, twin serpents wound around a staff under a sun face, rendered in tonal gray line art against the washed fabric so it reads quiet rather than loud.
Spirit Molecule Joggers. The roomiest of the tapered group at 400 GSM, cut oversized through the thigh before narrowing to the same style of elastic cuff. The inseam runs shorter than the other three joggers by design, meant to break at or just above the ankle rather than stack all the way down. Mirrored serpent artwork runs down both legs.
Paradigm Baggy Sweatpants. Same 420 GSM cotton and the same Escher graphic as the tapered Paradigm, cut into a wide straight leg with no taper so it stacks over a shoe instead of cinching at the ankle. This is the pair to reach for if the tapered cuff reads too fitted. It needs a bigger size jump; we size two up from normal to hit the intended drape.
Spirit Molecule Barrel Leg. The construction outlier of the group. Instead of tapering or running straight, the leg widens through the thigh and curves back in below the knee before finishing open, with no cuff. It is also the only pair in the lineup on a mineral wash rather than a snow wash, which reads more even and less mottled, and the only one with actual pockets: two slash pockets at the hip and a rear patch pocket. The artwork spreads across four placements: a serpent and mandala on the left thigh, a small flame mark on the right hip, mirrored linework down both shins, and a wordmark on the back pocket, all printed into the cotton rather than sitting on top of it.
