Ours are built heavier on purpose, and this guide shows the numbers: what GSM measures in a sweatpant, where each of the eight pairs we currently make sits between 340 and 420 GSM, and how the cuts differ, from a tapered jogger to a waffle knit straight leg to a curved barrel leg.
We make and sell these, so this is not a neutral roundup. Every weight, fiber, measurement, price, and sizing rule below is copied from the product page of the pair it describes, and where a page does not state something, neither do we.
What "Heavyweight" Means in a Sweatpant
GSM stands for grams per square meter. It is the weight of the fabric itself, not of the finished garment, which is why it is the one number that lets you compare two sweatpants without holding them. We cover the concept in full in our GSM explainer. The short version for sweatpants: our product pages put a standard jogger at 180 to 220 GSM. Six of our eight pairs are 420 GSM, close to double that.
What the extra weight buys is specific. The Existential jogger page describes the hand as "premium blanket weight, not cardboard": substantial and structured without being stiff. The barrel leg page names three things the density does. It gives the leg its structure, it holds a garment wash in a way thin cotton cannot, and it makes the pant warm, a cold weather bottom instead of a lounge pant. The Weight Ladder: 340, 400, and 420 GSM
Not every pair we make is the same weight, and the differences are deliberate.
- 420 GSM, 100% cotton. Six pairs: the Existential, Paradigm, Inner Alchemy, and Spirit Molecule joggers, the Paradigm baggy sweatpants, and the Spirit Molecule barrel leg. This is the core fabric of the line.
- 400 GSM, 100% cotton. One pair: the Celestial Synthesis jogger, built to match the Celestial Synthesis hoodie.
- 340 GSM waffle knit, 70% cotton and 30% polyester. One pair: the Existential waffle knit sweatpants. Its own page is blunt about it: "Midweight waffle. Not 420. Not a snow jogger." It is a different fabric on purpose, and the page explains the blend in two sentences: "The cotton is the hand. The poly is why a waffle this weight does not die in the wash."
All eight sit well above the 180 to 220 GSM range. The useful way to read the ladder is by what you want from the pant: 420 GSM for the most structure and warmth, 340 GSM waffle for surface texture and a drape that, in the words of its page, "reads like trousers instead of gym pants."
Heavyweight Joggers, Baggy Sweatpants, and a Barrel Leg: Three Constructions
Fabric weight is half of it. The leg construction is the other half, and the three we cut are not interchangeable.
- Tapered jogger, five pairs. A relaxed leg that finishes in a cuff at the ankle. All five are graphic joggers, each carrying original artwork on the leg.
- Wide or straight leg with an open hem, two pairs. The Paradigm baggy sweatpants have a wider, straighter leg that stacks over the shoe instead of tapering to the ankle. The waffle knit is a loose straight leg, long and open at the hem, with no elastic cuff.
- Barrel leg, one pair. It widens through the thigh, curves gently inward below the knee, and finishes with an open, straight, uncuffed hem. Tonal paneling runs the length of both legs, so the curve is built into the pattern instead of left to the fabric.
Leg length moves with the construction. On the size charts, the Spirit Molecule jogger runs 38.2 to 41.3 inches from S to 2XL, while the barrel leg runs 41.7 to 44.9 inches, about three and a half inches longer at every size. Check the chart on the specific product page instead of assuming your usual size carries over between cuts.

Pair by Pair
Existential Joggers. The tapered jogger in its most direct form: 420 GSM snow washed cotton, an elastic waistband with a drawstring, an elastic cuff at the ankle, and the Existential sacred geometry graphic. Its page says the snow wash leaves each pair with a slightly faded vintage look, and that no two pairs come out exactly the same.
Paradigm Joggers. The same fabric and cut with different artwork: a white outlined, Escher-like interlocking 3D form on the right thigh, with the small flame logo on the left leg. Its page calls the design clean and minimal, and it is.
Inner Alchemy Joggers. The same tapered 420 GSM base carrying a caduceus-style emblem on the right leg: twin serpents winding around a staff, topped by a sun face with spread wings, drawn in tonal gray line art against the dark washed fabric.
Spirit Molecule Joggers. 420 GSM, 100% cotton, a loose fit with a mid-waist drawstring and elastic cuffs, and mirrored snake artwork down both legs. The chart runs shorter than the three joggers above (38.2 to 41.3 inches on the out-seam, an inseam of roughly 27.5 to 30.5 inches), because this pair is cut to sit at or just above the ankle.
Celestial Synthesis Joggers. The newest sweatpant in the line and the one 400 GSM jogger: a relaxed leg, an elastic drawstring waist, and a ribbed ankle cuff. The art is a sun and all-seeing eye emblem on the left thigh, with the alchemical tree of life growing from a flask under the sun and moon on both knees. It is the same artwork as the Celestial Synthesis hand-frayed hoodie, so the two read as one outfit.
Paradigm Baggy Sweatpants. The same 420 GSM snow washed cotton and the same Escher-like form on the right thigh as the Paradigm jogger, cut with a wide leg that sits over the shoe. Its page is direct about who it is for: "Want slimmer? Go with the joggers."
Existential Waffle Knit Sweatpants. 340 GSM waffle knit in 70% cotton and 30% polyester, mineral washed, with a loose straight leg, a mid waist with a drawstring, and slash pockets. It carries the Existential drawing on a knit whose ridges and valleys catch the light differently, and it is long and open at the hem by design.
Spirit Molecule Barrel Leg. 420 GSM cotton knit in a mineral wash, with a mid-rise drawstring waist, two slash side pockets, and a rear patch pocket. The artwork sits in four placements: a wordmark above a coiled serpent wound through an eyed mandala on the left thigh, a small flame mark on the right hip that is the only color on the garment, a mirrored totem motif in fine white linework down both shins, and the wordmark again on the rear pocket.
Snow Wash and Mineral Wash on Heavy Cotton
Six pairs are snow washed and two, the waffle knit and the barrel leg, are mineral washed. Both are garment washes, done to the finished piece, which is why the finish lands a little differently on every pair. The barrel leg page puts it this way: the color sits unevenly across the surface the way worn cotton does, and minor variation between pairs is inherent to the process. Sizing, in Plain Terms
Sizing is where heavyweight sweatpants trip people up, because the rule changes with the cut. From each product page:
- Existential, Paradigm, and Inner Alchemy joggers run one size small. Size up one. Russell is 6 foot 2 and 180 pounds, normally wears L, and wears XL in these.
- Spirit Molecule joggers: size up one for the intended drape. Celestial Synthesis joggers: the page gives the same founder reference, XL.
- Paradigm baggy sweatpants and the waffle knit: size up two so the leg sits over the shoe. Russell wears 2XL in the baggy and would take 2XL in the waffle knit.
- Barrel leg: true to size. Russell wears his usual L, and 2XL only for an exaggerated stacked look.
Two more things. The waist figure on these charts is the waistband at rest, not your body waist, so go by the founder reference and, where the chart gives one, the height range. The care lines on these pages agree on the basics: machine wash cold, tumble dry low. The Celestial Synthesis, waffle knit, and barrel leg pages add a gentle cycle and no bleach, and tell you to keep the iron off the artwork. The Existential jogger page expects minimal shrinkage, because the pair is already washed during the snow wash process.
