Rave Outfits for Men: 5 Mens Rave Outfits Built to Last Until Sunrise

Existential sleeveless hoodie in black vintage wash sun fade, a mens rave outfit layer with a drawstring hood and metal eyelets at each armhole

The best rave outfits for men do three jobs: they let heat out on the dance floor, they move when you move, and they keep you warm when you walk out at sunrise. This guide builds five mens rave outfits from eight pieces we make, with the fabric weight, fit and price of each one copied from its own product page.

What do guys wear to a rave?

Most guys wear a tank or a relaxed fit tee, shorts or joggers they can dance in, broken-in shoes, and one warm layer for the walk out. A rave is hours of movement in a warm crowd, so the outfit has to work like athletic gear and still look like you. That is why streetwear with strong artwork beats a costume: it reads as a rave outfit under the lights, and you can wear it again on Tuesday.

Nothing below is a costume. Every piece is made to order and built to survive the night and the wash after it.

Mens rave outfit ideas: five fits, piece by piece

1. The warehouse fit: raw hem tank and mesh shorts

For a packed indoor room, start with the Dimensional Drift Raw Hem Tank ($60). It is 275 GSM, 100% cotton and snow washed, with a true drop shoulder and raw, unfinished hems. Its page puts a standard tank at 120 to 150 GSM, so this is nearly double the weight, which is why it drapes and does not cling when you sweat. Pair it with the Nomenclature Mesh Drawstring Shorts ($50): 145 GSM polyester athletic mesh, cut above the knee, with an elasticated drawstring waist and two side pockets. Air moves straight through the mesh and it dries fast.

2. The hood-up fit: hooded tank and waffle knit shorts

The Embrace The Chaos Hooded Tank ($80) is 270 GSM cotton in a boxy cut with a roomy hood and an artisan snow wash. The back panel is covered in bold white line art: a knot of intertwining serpents with eyes watching from inside the tangle. Arms free on the floor, hood up between sets. Wear it with the Existential Mineral Wash Waffle Knit Shorts ($60), which are 340 GSM cotton with a waffle texture and a white crescent moon with hanging celestial charms on the right thigh.

3. The DJ cut fit: a tee that moves

If you would rather keep your shoulders covered, wear the Cosmic Connection Mineral Wash DJ Cut Tee ($75). It is 330 GSM heavyweight cotton in a boxy, dropped shoulder, slightly cropped cut with a hand-cut raw hem. Its page says it hangs off you instead of clinging, and that is what you want on a dance floor: the fabric swings when you do. Put mesh shorts under it for a hot room and joggers for a cold one.

4. The outdoor night fit: sleeveless hoodie and joggers

Outdoor raves and desert stages get cold after midnight. The Existential Sleeveless Hoodie ($110) covers both halves of the night: a 370 GSM poly-cotton-spandex knit with a drawstring hood, three metal eyelets at each armhole and a riveted kangaroo pocket, cut with open armholes so your arms still move. Add the Celestial Synthesis Snow Wash Joggers ($120): 400 GSM, 100% cotton, with a relaxed leg, an elastic drawstring waist and a ribbed ankle cuff.

5. The sunrise layer: a zip hoodie you can tie on

Every rave ends outside. The Existential Dirty Washed Zip-Up Fleece Hoodie ($110) is fleece lined with a full zip, so it opens to vent, closes when the temperature drops, and ties around your waist for the hours in between. Its page calls the fabric heavyweight fleece and states no GSM number, so we are not going to give you one.

Is heavyweight cotton too hot for a rave?

Less than you would think, because the cut matters more than the weight. A tank lets heat out through the armholes, and the Raw Hem Tank's own page says the sleeveless design keeps it breathable despite the heavyweight fabric. Heavier cotton also drapes instead of clinging, so it is not stuck to you three hours in. Where you want something light is below the waist in a hot room, and that is the job of 145 GSM mesh. If fabric weight is new to you, start with our guide to what GSM means in fabric.

Indoor rave, outdoor rave or festival: what changes

  • Indoor or warehouse rave: dress for heat. A tank, mesh shorts, and a zip layer you can tie on.
  • Outdoor rave at night: dress for the temperature drop. A sleeveless hoodie or the DJ cut tee, joggers, and the zip hoodie within reach.
  • Multi-day EDM festival: you need a rotation, not one outfit. Our guide to mens festival outfits covers the three-day plan and the packing checklist.

Fit: leave room to dance

Relaxed cuts with dropped shoulders give your arms room, and that matters more at a rave than anywhere else you will wear these. Three sizing facts from the product pages: the Raw Hem Tank runs about one full size wide, so size down one for a closer fit. The hooded tank and both pairs of shorts run true to size. The DJ Cut Tee runs boxy by design, so take your true size for the full drape. For reference, Russell, the founder, is 6 ft 2 in and 180 lbs, and wears L in the hooded tank and the DJ Cut Tee and XL in the joggers.

Use the size recommender on the product page before you order. It unlocks the 30-Day Fit Warranty, which covers a size exchange if the fit is still wrong (US orders). For the shoulder numbers on our tanks, read the graphic tank tops guide. For mesh against heavyweight cotton below the waist, read the graphic shorts guide.

What not to wear to a rave

  • New shoes. Break them in first.
  • Anything tight through the shoulders or thighs. You will be moving for hours.
  • A coat with nowhere to put it. Bring a layer that ties on.
  • Loose pockets. Keep your phone in a front pocket or a small bag.

Two things that are not clothes and matter just as much: earplugs and water.

Order early: every piece is made to order

We do not keep a warehouse of finished stock. Each piece is created for you when you order it. Our shipping policy says most orders ship within a day and land at US addresses in about nine days, so order at least two weeks before the event, and earlier if you think you might need a size exchange.

Frequently asked questions

What do guys wear to a rave?

A tank or a relaxed fit tee, shorts or joggers you can dance in, broken-in shoes and one warm layer for the walk out. Pick breathable cuts with room to move, and artwork you actually like.

Can I wear streetwear to a rave instead of a costume?

Yes. A graphic tank or tee with relaxed shorts or joggers is a standard mens rave outfit, and you can wear it again after the event.

Is a tank top or a t-shirt better for a rave?

A tank runs cooler because the open armholes let heat out. A boxy tee with dropped shoulders works if you want coverage, as long as it hangs loose instead of clinging.

Should I wear shorts or joggers to a rave?

Shorts for indoor raves and warm nights, joggers for outdoor events that get cold after midnight. Mesh shorts at 145 GSM are built for heat, and 400 GSM cotton joggers are built for the cold.

What should men wear to an outdoor rave when it gets cold?

Keep the tank or tee and add layers: a sleeveless hoodie, joggers, and a zip hoodie you can tie around your waist until you need it.

How far ahead should I order a rave outfit?

At least two weeks. Every piece is made to order, and our shipping policy says most orders ship within a day and land at US addresses in about nine days.
